Snuggles

Case and I woke up on time this morning with every intention of going to church. But after breakfast Case wanted to snuggle and we were only going to lay down for a minute...

It turns out we were both pretty tired.

This is the best part of our weekends-we never ever get to sleep in, but most Saturday mornings I'll crawl in bed with Monkey after I give him his meds and we will snuggle. We talk and tickle and have a slow and lazy start to our day.

Mardi Gras

Today Case and I headed to Navarre for a Mardi Gras parade. It was a hard situation for Case, with lots of people, but he was really good. Besides, it's good for him to stretch himself. We didn't clean up like some kids who dance around and wave (Case was the most somber person there), but we did get plenty of shiny beads. Near the end Case even wore some (the first time some guy in a feather boa tried to drop some around his neck he had to bury his face in my neck for a few minutes to regain his composure). But he was sweet and polite and kindly never ran away, which is as good as it gets.

These photos, sadly, will probably not make it in my portfolio for the Pulitzer. It is amazingly difficult to take good photos with a baby toddler giant huge child in your arms.

Dirt

Playing in the dirt yesterday. I understand the fun of cranes and tractors and digging; I do not understand how his face gets so filthy. He's been taking a lot of baths lately.

Y'aint been Pucked till you've been Fudpucked

Cash was dressed for the occassion
This weekend Cody, Raquel and Cash came to hang out with Case and I. Friday night we drove to Destin to eat at a tourist place called Fudpuckers where the boys got to hold an alligator. Case was pretty excited, and Cash was excited that Case was excited. The tiny alligator was bizarrely soft and squishy under it's hard and rough skin, like a marshmallow wearing a motorcycle jacket.

C is for Casey

I think the light finally came on for Case about writing. We have been working really hard on the letter "C" for three weeks now: painting it, drawing it in the sand, writing it on the LightBright, eating pancakes shaped like it, drawing it with a dozen different mediums, and making macaroni pictures featuring the letter C.
Case prefers a more clothing-optional lifestyleYesterday he started writing it all by himself. This is him this morning, writing on the chalkboard while he should be getting ready for school. He is so proud of himself! Almost as proud of as I am.

Entirely his idea

Holy cow, another food post?
When we got home from the doctor's office this evening, it was time for dinner. We had been discussing our options in the car, but when unleashed upon the kitchen Case decided to take matters into his own hands. He was so proud of his clever idea!Mmmm, sauteed cinnamon hearts. (The hearts were sitting on the counter, but the pan and spatula he got out himself while I wasn't even in there.)
Good thing he can't turn on the stove yet

Crispies

A well done ad can stay with you for years. 10 or 11 years ago (before every commercial was available on Youtube so I can't show it to you now) I saw a commercial for Rice Crispies that showed a Mom and her kids making rice crispy treats, having a wonderful silly time licking the spoons and eating warm delicious nibbles off the side of a giant sheet of deliciousness. It finished up with "Rice Crispies. Because that's the kind of Mom you want to be".
And I thought "Holy crap they are right! That is the kind of Mom I want to be!"
So last night Case and I made Crispies. It was so much fun, and so delicious. Then we snuggled on the couch and had tasty snacks.
